Small Space Living: Three Tips for Opening Your Space

by Jeffrey Hersheway |  | 1 comment

Whether you’re moving to a starter home, apartment, or prefer bite-sized living, it’s challenging to decorate smaller spaces. Sometimes you wish every Pinterest scene would fit into one two-bedroom home. Luckily, we’re home décor experts, so we’d be happy to show you how to decorate small spaces and take your décor from cramped to revamped.

Tip #1: Use Floating Storage Shelves

You don’t need a heavy armoire to store your keepsakes, photos, and adorable plant friends. Adding some floating wall shelves or wall cabinets saves space on your floorplan while highlighting the accent pieces that reflect your personality. Most are easy to hang and have a robust weight capacity, so you can choose the style that best matches your personality and the aesthetic of the items you want to showcase.

Tip #2: Add Light With a Mirror

One of the bummers of small space living is that it can often feel a bit cramped, especially when there isn’t a lot of natural light. To enhance your light sources, try hanging a modern wall mirror. Adding a wall mirror to your small space draws in and reflects light and creates a vibrant area. A brighter room has a more dimensional, open look, making the area appear larger. Claustrophobia no more!

Tip #3: Experiment With Storable Furniture

Need an extra area to work or host a small get-together? Try searching for pop-up end tables or rolling bar carts. Accent furniture with features revolving around storability and portability allows you to enhance your décor or open up your space at a moment’s notice. Use a rolling bar cart to serve friends at your house-warming party or give yourself some extra space for bathroom or office supplies. A pop-up table is excellent for giving your home a new place to gather for get-togethers, and when you’re all finished, you can fold up your side table and store it away for future use.
