Cathy Zhang is a self-taught watercolor artist and illustrator based in Portland, Oregon. Her art journey started spontaneously in 2015 out of her desire for a creative outlet after years of working in various analytical corporate jobs. She picked up a paintbrush for the first time in over 12 years and painted in watercolor every day as part of #The100DayProject movement on Instagram. It quickly became and is still her favorite medium.

To appreciate watercolor is to truly embrace its unpredictable nature. Rather than seeing water as an element to be controlled, she sees its organic movement as a strength that makes watercolor a unique and mesmerizing medium. 

Cathy creates nature and wildlife inspired watercolor art with the unexpected use of color. She is naturally drawn to a playful and expressive style because it gives her room to experiment and allows her to rely more on her intuition.
